This is a question that is on the mind of everyone who would like to put to rest the “anyone can do it” slacker, indie, hipster era of rock and roll. Darin Bennett and the Requiem are ushering in a new era of classic, male driven, blues-rock and roll.
Lead by singer/songwriter/guitarist/banjoist Darin Bennett, this is a group of guys who skip the B.S. in favor of a hard driving, honest approach to their music. While creating their own unique style and sound, they draw heavily from the rich history of roots based music. Heavy doses of no nonsense delta blues, classic r&b, soul, and rock provide the musical soundtrack to lyrics that tell stories of the battered up, beaten down, and broken hearted. Bennett's lyrics are equal parts Tom Waits and Nick Cave with a taste of Tennesse Williams thrown in for good measure.
Darin Bennett has slowly orchestrated the assembly of his Requiem that includes Redbone on Guitar, Gerrod Miskovsky on bass, and Cosmo Jones on drums. Together, they are creating music that is at once furious and passionate with a lyrical tapestry of characters and stories that are as timeless as the music itself.
As I've been told, DBR features a mental patient, an ex-con, a farmer, and a computer genius.
